In the vaping community, the FDA is the butt of a lot of jokes and animosity. But they are not always bad. Yesterday, the FDA released a statement about the results of their youth smoking prevention campaign. According to the FDA, since the campaign's inception in 2014, in the first two years it was able to prevent nearly 350,000 teens from smoking cigarettes. It's estimated that half of those kids would have gone on to be established smokers. They calculate that to save these kids, their family, and the country more than $31 billion!
What can $31 Billion buy?
Can you believe that? To put this in perspective, that's the entire GDP of the Libya in a given year. That's enough money to buy North Korea, twice! I'm sure Kim Jong-un would be interested in that purchase. Or not... you know what, never mind. I'm just kidding Kim Jong-un, we're still cool right?
Anyway, back to what I was saying. That's a metric butt ton of money! They estimated that for each of those kids not smoking, they saved about $181,000 for each of the 175 thousand kids that would have likely gone on to be established smokers (referring to preventing early death, medical cost, lost productivity, etc.). That's enough money to pay a homeless man to be your personal foot stool for the rest of your life. That's enough money to pay an obscure Chinese University to admit an intelligent duck to fall semester. That's enough money for me to tell you my secret recipes (just kidding).
Seriously, this is great news!
In all seriousness, this is great news. Vaping has always been under attack as being a gateway for kids to smoke cigarettes. This campaign may help these kids stay away from cigarettes and vaping for good. The purpose behind vape is to help smokers transition away from smoking. It's never been for kids and will never be for kids.
On top of the first two years of this program being a success, they had a huge return on investment! The FDA estimates that the campaign saved $128 for dollar of the nearly $250 million invested in the first two years of the effort! That is unbelievable.
Now, I'm not just mindlessly stroking the ego of the FDA, they've got a lot of work to do if they're going to earn my approval. *clears throat* new bullshit warning labels... But I digress.
Let me know what you think in the comments below! Is this good news? Or do you think the FDA is in the pocket of the Illuminati and are trying to secretly destroy the vaping industry?
